Eating Clean

I've heard of people going on a "Clean Diet" and "Eating Clean" but I never understood what that was. In fact, I think anything with a DIET in the title is silly because the way you eat should be your lifestyle, not just a few months of changing your ways only to go back and ruin any progress you have made. Even so much as people passing up drinking Soda made no sense to me. When at restaurants I only ever got water to save $5 or to save room for food...but at home or at parties I never understood why people wanted bottled water over a can of soda....UNTIL NOW! Now I completely understand and will be joining them with a bottle of water for myself!

Up until I had my first child I could pretty much eat anything I wanted and it wouldn't bother me. I never gained unwanted weight, I never gained inches, really food and drinks never bothered me. After my first child my body changed a little and I could see a difference in how my clothes fit me. I blamed most of it on having a child but I was still within 10 pounds of my high school weight.
After having my second child, things CHANGED! But many things changed in our family. Let's start from when I was pregnant with Aubry (my second child).

While pregnant with Aubry I came across some wonderful Essential Oils from a company called doTERRA. Wonderful, wonderful products. I was using them while I was pregnant to help me sleep and to help fight off Colds and just to protect our little family. I loved them.
A combination of these oils actually kicked my cold! I fell in love.

Shortly after having Aubry I started using them more and more. I have used some oils to help with tummy problems, Colds, runny noses, headaches, depression and PPD, as well as weight loss. In fact, our family, my husband included, has not used any over-the-counter medication in months!

Now let's talk about this weight loss. No, I have not lost 60 pounds in 30 days or any of those crazy numbers that other companies tell you they can do. I have simply been drinking water with Grapefruit oil (appetite suppressant) and Lemon oil (good for cleaning out our body). I lost 5 pounds in the first 10 days and then it has been a little slower after that. But! The weight isn't the only thing that has changed. Because I have decided to look into what medications I put in my body, I have also thought a lot more about what foods I put in my body.

Nik has been Soda-free for over a month now and I am right behind him. The thought of putting weird stuff in my body with wasted calories just doesn't make sense any more and it is not appealing anymore either. Plus, the carbonation hurts both of our stomachs. Along with cutting soda I have some friends that are on this same journey of Eating Clean and their posts on Facebook and Instagram have really inspired me! I now shop differently. Majority of my groceries are fruits and veggies. I now read the label of anything that is packaged and I try to steer clear of words I don't know and can't pronounce. I had no idea that "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" was so so so bad for you! It doesn't melt that easily because of the chemicals and nasty preservatives that are in it. No wonder the fat isn't shedding off my hips....because it is fill with that "butter." Same with Peanut Butter. WHO KNEW?!?! I didn't. Nik was the one that pointed that out. So, we have switched some products in our house. We still drink milk and eat cheese and eat yogurts (greek, though) but for now that is fine with us. I'm I'll do more research and change those habits....but it's a slow process I will talk about next. I'm going to try Almond Milk again and maybe even make my own at home...but again, slowly!!!

This wasn't an over-night change...it has been a slow change over the last 6 weeks because I didn't want to overwhelm myself and then quit. I wanted to keep putting healthy and clean things in my body...things my body knows how to digest properly.

So far we eat lots of Avocados, Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Bell Peppers, Squash, Carrots, Broccoli, Sprouts, Pecans, Peaches, Blueberries, Nectarines, Strawberries, Spinach, Celery, Eggs, Chicken, Salmon, Tuna, and other clean (meaning no preservatives) foods. I'm not a fanatic and definitely not a pro...so do some research for yourself and do what you feel is best for your body.

Yes, when we go out on dates (once a week, if that!) I will eat at a restaurant and not beat myself up about it but I try to pick good things off the menu. This is all new to me and my little family but we love it! We shop at Sprouts because their selection of fruits and veggies just amazes me and I'm not bombarded with Oreos and Rice Krispies on the end aisles. haha. It is hard to pass those treats up at times.

I want to thank my friends Stevy F., Leanna W., and Ang G. for their inspiring posts. Eating this way is easy and so delicious! If you have any questions about oils or how I eat clean, please ask! I would love to help anyone out.

Again, I am still learning and changing a lot of what we do in our family.
I do not claim to know everything and I do not intend to hurt feelings about how others eat...
This is just how I see food and how I want to live.
I have lived the complete opposite of this before and I like where I am today a lot more.

It's Not You, It's Me.

I have loved Irony ever since I learned about it my Freshmen year. We learned about it by watching The Princess Bride and breaking apart different scenes. I have a liking for it in a weird way because I feel it is a bit sarcastic. (I don't know if that makes sense to anyone else, but it does in my head. Hopefully for you, too.)

Let me share a little bit of what happened to me yesterday.

I have been on a Dr. Pepper kick. Can't stop wanting it and craving that sweetness. I just want more and more and heck, our Little Jewel seems to like it too.

Well now that I am in my 3rd Trimester and my weight gain is going to be increasing the most these last 3 months as She grows bigger and bigger...I don't really want to grow bigger and bigger myself.
My doctor said I am a pound or two under what I should be and I thought that was good news for the end...giving me a little bit of a buffer.
Granted, whatever happens is for the baby and my body will do what it needs to in order to provide the best home for her now.

Anywho, I texted Nik yesterday at 10:56am (this is important) that I want his help to keep me from that yummy liquid. No more running to Sonic or Circle K for a quick fix. I told him that if I need the caffeine for a headache (happened a lot in my 1st trimester) because Tylenol doesn't work for me, that I am only allowed a small can of Dr. Pepper. I just don't want my weight gain to increase because of something dumb and avoidable.

Well...at 11:00am I get a text from SONIC! "Today @Sonic $.99 Rt44 Soft Drinks ALL DAY! 3/31 @ part loc."

WTHeck!!! Are you kidding me?!?!
haha...I got quite a good laugh outta that and immediately texted Nik what just happened.

Oh Dr. Pepper...It's not you, it's me.

The End.

First of Many

So last night was the first night I have experienced what so many other mothers talk of and dread...

NO SLEEP!
Our Little Jewel decided she wanted to play around...all night long.
Before this, she would be quiet and if she played around, I had no idea.
Occassionally she would wake up with me around 3:30am on my potty break, but that was it.
She was as light as a feather when she would move.
Well, not anymore. She is one strong little lady.
I could not for the life of me get more than 30 minutes of sleep at a time.
Didn't help that her and her daddy decided to tag-team and keep me up all night.
I guess it was warmer than usual in our room last night, so Nik would not lie still.
But then again...neither could I...BECAUSE the two of them kept moving.

I laugh at it now...but maybe it is just because I am super-dee-duper exhausted!
lol.
And I am very very happy that everything seems to be healthy and right on schedule...
Just part of learning how to deal with this completely different part of life.

But on a different note...my mom and I play our own Scrabble Game on FBook.
Now, this is very unusual because the family isn't the biggest fan of playing that game with her...
...because she is SO DARN GOOD!
She jokes about reading the dictionary when she was younger, but I swear she did.
In fact, if I close my eyes REAL hard I can see her from my spot on the clouds in Heaven doing so.
True story.
;-)
Well, we started a new game, because I actually won last game.
THAT, my friends, IS RARE!
So it's my first turn on this new game....and in 2 minutes I find a word using ALL my 7 letters...
...giving me the 50pt bonus! I was super stoked! I couldn't stop laughing...not that I was rubbing it in, because I know it will eventually be her winning....but I was just sooooo happy I got a good score and was in the lead.
And the funniest part was how the word directly relates to my pregnancy - CRAVINGS. lol
Well, my next hand of tiles were A A A I I U T.
CRAP!
What am I suppose to do with that?!?!
See, this game is not about strategy at all...it's about luck and knowing weird words.
Well, I guess a little about strategy because you don't want to play somewhere next to a DW or TW to allow the next player that spot. But other than that, just takes brains.

Now onto the BEST part of the night....Cherry Swirl Coffee Cake

FORGET about DINNER!!!
Bring on this bad boy!
Just found this on the Betty Crocker site....and made it in a jiffy.
You should try it out.
Looks almost like the Entenmann's Coffee Cake.
If it is a similar match...I'll be in heaven.

Well, that is all for tonight, folks!
Have a good weekend.
Loves!

German Chocolate Thumbprints

WOW!
Can you say DELICIOUS?!?!

I Heart German Chocolate Cake.
I ask for that cake at my birthday.
I get that ice cream at Cold Stone.
My mom makes these delicious German Chocolate Brownie/Muffins.
And now I have a cookie to add to the mix.

I am in HEAVEN!

Check out this link to the recipe!
Except next time I am going to add Pecans to the cookie mix
and do 1/2 tsp of frosting on the top.

I did make these a bit small, but only because I feel better eating small cookies.
Plus they are cuter when small.

I will let you know how it goes when I make it again this week,
Cuz heck, there is a ton of frosting to use up!
Oh Bummer!!!

Me.Want.Cookie! Me.Eat.Cookie!

This is the blue version of myself.
I CANNOT get enough of cookies right now!
(You probably wouldn't believe me if I told you
that I sing Cookie Monster's little song in my head
in my spare time, would you?
True Story.)

See...I am not much of a candy person, or a cake person, or pie, or even cookie...
But right now, I cannot stop thinking about cookies.
I cannot stop baking cookies.
I just cannot get enough.

This week I have made
Chocolate-Marshmallow Pillows,
No-Bake Cookies,
Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies (thanks Grandma Allred for the kit),
and
Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies (thanks Grandma, again, for the kit).
Obsessed? Maybe.
Delicious? Definitely.

I woke up this morning and one of the first things I told Nik was that I wanted cookies.
After church we took a little nap and when I woke up I told him I was going to make some cookies.
He just laughs,
But I know he enjoys it too.
The whole family does.

Here are the delicious Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies I made with the kit Grandma gave me for Christmas from Lehi Roller Mills.
Yes, you can see they are a hit already!
All those empty spaces once held the yummies.

Oh how I love cookies.
After much denial I guess I can say I crave cookies.
From my previous post you see I once craved Orange Chicken,
But once I passed the 1st Trimester I was done with that craving.
Now it is this yummy goodness that keeps me up at night.

So if you have extra cookies lying around, send them MY WAY, please!

19weeks 1day
I FINALLY feel that I look like I am pregnant,
rather than looking like I just gave up my Resolution of the gym in the first month.
Still having constant pain from all the shifting in my lower back, hips, and even my ribs.
If any mothers or pregnant ladies have suggestions, let me know!
But let me tell you, I truly am loving this whole experience.
It amazes me everyday what is going on.
That there is my baby growing more and more, getting ready to meet her mommy and daddy.
That Nik and I get to raise this beautiful little spirit.
This is amazing!
Through all the pain, I still smile at the end of the day.
I love her already.
And I love the wonderful husband of mine who has been so supportive through this whole experience.
He is a great husband,
(not to mention good looking!),
And he will be a great father
(I just know it)!

Not-So-Normal Grapes

So...remember my post just earlier today...(see below)...well that purchase at Safeway included some grapes.
These are magical grapes.
Have you ever had grapes from Chile?
Have you ever had grapes infused with nectarine juices?
I HAVE!
Let me just tell you....the most delicious grapes I've ever had.
I'm gonna go get some more!
Just sayin.
Well...this was a ridiculous post but I had to share it.
Thanks for readin!
